This is a museum quality reproduction of the very rare 103rd Aero Pursuit Squadron Pin, the famous full bonet Indian headdress in sterling silver and hallmarked 925 which is the European mark for sterling. The squadron was established on June 30, 1918 and demobilized on December 11, 1918. But from March 15, 1916 until July 4, 1918 this was also the insignia of the French Army’s Lafayette Escadrille  SPA 124.  The SPA 124 reorganized as a French unit when the 103rd was formed. As far as I can tell this is the only Squadron Pin used by two units. This pin was worn over the Pilots wings on the left side of the uniform to designate their squadron. This followed the practice started by the French. Here is a chance to have one until an original comes along.
